The floppy drive of my EL-70's MDR broke down. As far as I know, this is a 720kb DD drive which is now obsolete. Is it possible to connect a 1.44Mb HD drive and make it work? I tried doing so but the MDR cannot detect it . It would just prompt me instead to insert a dsk.

the 720 kb drive doesn't work with 1.44 Mb floopy.
But you can try to format the floppy at 720 kb.

Yamaha does not use a standard PC floppy drive in the Electones. Look for a used MDR-4 as a replacement. That will provide HD drive. It will work but only with unprotected disks.

Hi, the drive in the EL-70 is acutally a HD & DD Drive. The part is available from YAMAHA but because it has a cicuit board mounted to it, it costs quite allot. Luckily newer EL models (ie EL-900m) don't and just use a normal drive and are much cheaper to replace. Hope this helps...

I finally had the MDR replaced with a new unit over the last weekend. It cost me around $400 in all. Whether it's overpriced or not, I don't know, but I didn't seem to have much choice than to "bite the bullet".

I just bought an used HS-8 organ equippede with an MDR3 floppy reader. I did'nt succeed to transfer songs and registration sets from my computer to my organ through a floppy read by MDR3. I tried to write those songs on a 720K (18x9) formatted floppy and I succeeded in write the floppy, but this floppy it's not recognized by MDR3 (which issue an error message cf07). I tried to format the floppy through MDR3, but the formatted floppy it's not recognized by computer. I think the problem it's that floppy today available are High Density floppies and MDR3 just doe'snt work with those. Have you any suggestion to input those files from computer to HS-8?
Can you additionally tell me if a modern voice generator/expander with midi output could be used in connection with HS-8 ( I have a CVS10 which has just flutes voices, and I woul like to have piano voices, and modern sax voices)

Thank you
Giuseppe

the MDR of HS-8 accept DOUBLE DENSITY floppy disk.
You should use to cover the hole (opposite to the protection) and format at 720K in your computer.

Of course you can connect a voice expander.......

Tell me if you succeed

I tried to cover the HD hole, but I did'nt succeed to format it , by PC,at 720 K with HD copy, nor with the normal Format command of Vista operating system. I can format the HD floppy ( with the hole covered or without cover), using the MDR3, but then after I cannot transfer files from PC to this floppy, since it is not opened nor by HD copy program, nor by Vista. Have you any other suggestion?
